Pod the Alien Sketch : ‘Arrival (2)’
Introduction and entrance (Compere, talking, is interrupted by spaceship landing sound effects, What’s that noise? I think there’s something happening outside, lets take a look on the school’s security camera.. Overlay external photo of school with spaceship slide, landing. Now what could that be?! Is it an aeroplane; a helicopter? Have any of you children got any ideas what it is?. Take suggestions from the children. OHP off.
(spaceship hovers through the door and up to the front. The spaceman peaks out from spaceship nervously and shies away at any noise)
Hello (spaceman shies away again)
Don’t worry little fella: Hello.
Don’t … eat me.
(Gasp) I wouldn’t eat you.
But what about those ones? (looking around congregation).
They won’t eat you either. Will you? (to congregation).
Have you already eaten?
No, we don’t eat anyone here. (proudly:) We welcome visitors.
Are you friendly then?
Well, (looking round) yes; nearly all of us are. But were did you come from?
Space.
Where exactly in space?
Outer-space.
I see. So what are you doing here then?
Visiting.
Well I can see that but what …
Take me to your leader.
Well if you wanted to speak to Andrew he’s just over there.
(Spaceman looks the Pastor up and down) Is there anyone more important than that?
Oh, well I suppose that the most important leader, in this country, would be the Prime Minister.
Is he here? (looking around)
No, not this week, I expect he’s at another church today.
So who’s the leader of all the churches then?
Ah, now that’s Jesus.
Is there anyone more important than Jesus?
No. Jesus is more important, and more powerful than anyone on Earth, or Heaven! He is higher than any king, or queen, or leader. He’s the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. There is no-one greater than Jesus.
Wow! Now he does sound important. (sadly) I suppose he must be far too busy to ever come near here.
Oh no, He’s always here.
(gasp) Really, I guess that makes you important too: Is he here now? (looking round)
Yes, but you won’t see him. He’s here by his Holy Spirit.
What’s ‘His Holy Spirit’?
Well, (awkwardly) I’d love to tell you, but we were just about to worship Him some more. Maybe you would like come back another week, and we could talk again?
Oh could I? That would be so exciting. (to congregation…) Can I come back again?
(Congregation:) ‘Yes’
(to Mike) I’m not sure that the big ones like me?
Don’t worry, they’re sometimes a bit suspicious of visitors from space. You can come back again.
Brilliant. I must go now, but I’ve learnt something new today: that even though there’s no-one more important than Jesus, he chooses to be here with you. I’ll see you again soon then. Good-bye.(leaving)
(When the spaceman is almost at the door ) Wait, we don’t even know your name?
Pod (from outside).Standard exit (Spaceship takes off on OHP overlay to accompanying sound effects through PA.)
(Over takeoff effects) Well, that was Pod. And there he goes off in his spaceship. We didn’t find out much about him did we. I hope that he can find his way back to see us again.
