Pod the Alien Sketch : ‘One Family’

Standard introduction and entrance (Compere talking is interrupted by spaceship landing sound effects, I think I can hear a spaceship landing, lets look at the outside security camera. Overlay external photo of school with spaceship slide, landing. OHP off. Look here he is, it’s our friend Pod the Spaceman, arriving from another world. Spaceman enters)

Hello.
Hello Pod, how are you today?
Oh, I’m feeling puzzled.
And what is it that’s puzzling you?
Well, I’ve noticed, that many of you live in small groups.
Yes, what’s strange about that?
Well you seem to do lots of things together: eating, sleeping, going out, coming to church.
Yes, that’s quite normal for families.
But it’s so wasteful!
Wasteful?
Yes wasteful, if you took it in turns to sleep you would only need one bed, and only one plate if you took it in turns to eat. And as for church, you’d save loads of space if you came one at a time. Well you could just use one of those small rooms with the water holes that I came passed on my way in.
But families are meant to do things together. They can enjoy being together, and help each other, and love each other. Often each person has special things that they can do to help the others. One might work to pay for the food, another might be good at preparing the food, another might be good at… at, well… eating the food.
I’m good at that! (enthusiastically)
Yes, I can see that.
Can anyone get together and decide to be a family?
Well it’s not something you choose, more something that you’re born into. People who live in families usually have parents, maybe brothers and sisters, and they can even look a bit like each other.
But what about people that don’t live in families?
Well, that’s true there are some people who do live alone, but that doesn’t mean that they can’t have a family. They can become part of God’s family.
(Gasp) You mean God has a family too!? But I thought that Jesus was God’s only Son. Is says so in the Bible doesn’t it? Or are you trying to say that the Bible is wrong? Mmmm? Mmmm?
No, not at all. The Bible also says that we become part of Gods family if we invite Jesus to live in our heart.
Wow, you mean that all of you are part of God’s family?
Well most of us here are, and we can care for each other, and help each other, and each have special things that we can do for the family. We have God as Heavenly Father, Jesus is our big brother, and we can be recognised as part of the family, by God’s Holy Spirit living in our hearts.
Wow, you get all that when you ask Jesus into your heart?
Yup, its a very special family that you can choose to be born into.
Well I think it must be brilliant to be part of a such a special family. (nodding) Well, I must be going now, but I’ve learnt something new on this trip, that God has a great big family that anyone can be part of, just by asking Jesus into their heart, and even if they don’t have a family of their own: Good-bye now, I’ll see you again soon.
