‘In My Dream’

I was standing in a crowd gathered by the road
They were cheering.
I was naked and alarmed but I was not exposed
The close crowd hid me.
Then I saw a royal parade coming down the hill
Walking past me.
The King turned to me. The crowd moved apart until
I’m bared before him.

My hearts a-pumping with his eyes upon me.
I hear the laughing of their eyes upon me.
Feel like calling down the skys upon me, skys upon me, eyes upon me.
My hearts a-pumping with his eyes upon me.
I hear the laughing of their eyes upon me.
Feel like calling down the skys upon me.

“You look like you need some clothes” he said, and I agreed
“Yes, Your Highness”
The King smiled, taking off his clothes, “You need these more than me”.
I took them gladly.
Soon I’m standing fully clothed, and instead it’s he
Whose standing naked.
Last he offers me his crown …

“Why should this man take his pity on me?”
“Why should this king put his clothing on me?”
“I cannot take a kings crown upon me, crown upon me, I’m not royalty”.
“Why should this man take his pity on me?”
“Why should this king put his clothing on me?”
“I cannot take a kings crown upon me.

“I’ll be sure to get these things all safely back to you”
Is all I can say.
He smiles back, “I don’t need them for where I’m going to”
And turns to leave me.
The people see his form and gasp. The volume starts to rise.
The crowd turn ugly.
As he stumbles down the hill they cut him down to size
His own guards beat him.

In my dream the king became an outcast.
In my dream the trade happened so fast.
I am restored and he becomes the outcast, he’s the outcast, such a contrast.
In my dream the king became an outcast.
In my dream the trade happened so fast.
I am restored and he becomes the outcast.

I was standing in the crowd gathered by the road
They were jeering.
He was naked and abused but I was not exposed.
His clothing hid me.
